Author Michael Bond gives us a new retelling of the Paddington Bear stories. Jim Broadbent reads the "snail mail" letters from Paddington to his Aunt Lucy, in Peru, with warmth and appropriate British charm. Paddington was found by the Brown family at Paddington Station wearing a sign that read: "Please look after this bear. Thank you." Paddington, whom the Browns named after the station, is literal, very polite, and always getting into trouble. He floods the bathroom, unsuccessfully hangs wallpaper, and saws the neighbor's kitchen table in half--and yet everything always comes right in the end. Broadbent's performance is so endearing and gently humorous that he sounds like a granddad indulging in the high spirits of a joyful little boy. LOVE FROM PADDINGTON is a lovely way to pass the time. In letters to his aunt Lucy, Paddington describes his adventures in London. The stories will be familiar to fans of the original books, and Paddington's spin on each is mildly entertaining. The art, a mix of Fortnum's original illustrations and Alley's more recent ones, along with references to computers and the London Eye, make for odd and confusing juxtapositions of time periods.
